O que é "there is" e "there are"?
Em inglês, usamos there is e there are para dizer que algo existe ou está presente em um lugar. Equivale a "há" ou "existe/existem" em português. Não confunda com o advérbio "there" (lá/ali)!

No passado, usamos there was (singular) e there were (plural):

Perguntas frequentes
"There is" introduz algo pela primeira vez — diz que algo existe: "There is a café on this street." (Há um café nesta rua — você não sabia.) "It is" se refere a algo já conhecido: "It is a great café!" (É um ótimo café! — já estamos falando dele.) A confusão é comum com brasileiros que traduzem "é" como "it is" em todos os casos.
Em inglês, "there" tem dois usos distintos: 1) Advérbio de lugar: "The book is over there." (O livro está lá.) 2) Sujeito gramatical vazio em "there is/are": "There is a book on the table." (Há um livro na mesa.) No segundo caso, "there" não significa "lá" — é apenas uma forma de introduzir existência. O lugar real aparece no final da frase.
Formalmente, não. "There's" é contração de "there is" e deveria ser usada apenas com singular. Porém, no inglês falado informal, é muito comum ouvir nativos dizer "There's two options here" (There are two options). Em escrita formal, sempre use "There are" com plural.
